Mechanization of Short-term Leafy Vegetable Production in Greenhouse

Many leafy vegetables in the northern region are planted in the Greenhouse, because the Greenhouse can control the cultivation environment of leafy vegetables and avoid the entry of some pests that affect the growth of leafy vegetables.

In order to alleviate hard work, this research has developed an electric short-term leaf vegetable transplanter, which can not only save transplant manpower needs and relieve the labor of transplant workers through mechanized transplantation in the greenhouse, this machine uses electricity as a power source, but also avoids the problem of exhaust gas accumulation when using engine-type agricultural machinery in greenhouses. The electric short-term leaf vegetable transplanting machine developed in this research can carry out 8-row leaf vegetable transplantation at a time, which is fast and efficient, and can effectively relieve the labor of transplant workers.

This research also develops an electric leafy vegetable bulk harvester, which uses machinery to harvest leafy vegetables in the greenhouse. The leafy vegetables are cut by the electric reciprocating shear of the harvester, and the leafy vegetables are transported to the collection trough by the conveying and clamping mechanism. The operator only needs to walk along with the machine to move forward and perform operations to quickly harvest a large number of leafy vegetables. It saves a lot of labor and also reduces the labor of leafy vegetable harvesters.

The electric leaf vegetable harvester has a good effect on the amaranth harvesting in the greenhouse. The walking speed of the machine is 4.5m per minute after the field test. 0.503kg of amaranth can be harvested per second, with a harvesting efficiency of 0.022 ha/hour. This machine can also harvest sweet potato leaves and Houttuynia Cordata. This machine is designed with electric power, which can avoid the problems of exhaust gas accumulation in the greenhouse caused by engine-powered machinery and the adhesion of oil and gas to the surface of leafy vegetables. The conveying mechanism design of the electric leafy vegetable harvester was awarded the Taiwan Patent No. I646887.
