Improve operational efficiency and re-evolve the vegetable seedling industry

In the 1990s, the Ministry of Agriculture promoted the cultivation of vegetable seedlings in plug trays, and guided the nursery operators in mechanical sowing and facility cultivation to ensure stable production. Up to now, there have been more than 200 vegetable nursery operators and the industry have become fairly mature. In recent years, we are facing problems such as agricultural manpower aging, shortage of labor force, and climate change, the vegetable seedling industry has bottlenecks from traditional management of seedling cultivation and staff arrangement. It is time to need new thinking and new methods to meet current and future industry needs.

The Ministry of Agriculture and scholars spot visited the industry and comprehend the needs of the industry, then designed an improvement plan suitable for the "seedling production" and "operation management" of the vegetable seedling industry. This project is based on the Intelligent Vegetable Seedling Production and Sales Management System, which replaces the paper record method used by seedling operators in the past to assist the informatization of order scheduling, production, field cultivation, sales and other items. Grasp every details from seeds to seedlings. All stages from shipment to customer service can be systematically managed to improve production and operation efficiency. The system can be used on computer or mobile device operation, so as to grasp and manage the operation dynamics of the nursery in real time, optimize the operation and management mode of the nursery field and improve overall performance; In addition, the project simultaneously introduces the remote control system of facility, pest warning and expert decision-making system in the nursery to accurately predict and provide producers with the best operation advice, which is conducive to the establishment of standardized seedlings; Construct the optimal production mode for short-term leafy vegetable seedling cultivation, and develop a short-term leafy vegetable transplanting machine, which replaces traditional manual operation. The operating efficiency of this machine is 3.8 times comparing to traditional manual transplanting, and the transplant success rate is as high as 95%. The transplanting operation per hectare takes 24 hours to achieve. It can achieve synergistic effects such as increasing the utilization rate of facilities, improving the ability to quickly restore farming after weather disasters, reducing manpower requirements, and improving the operation efficiency of nursery farms.

The standard production system in the isolated facility

With the climate changes, the weather becomes more and more challenging to the farmers. The facility cultivation is one of the methods to overcome this situation. The effective isolated facility is the foundation for the healthy strawberry plantlet production. This research focus on the effective isolated facility. By building a proper space for producing healthy strawberry plantlet, and developing the standard production system in the isolated facility, we improve the quality and efficiency of plantlet production.

Leaf Vegetable Transplanter with Variable Row Spacing Function

Taoyuan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station has developed the first domestically produced "variable row spacing leafy vegetable transplanter". This machine working a hectare in just 24 hours. The new leafy vegetable transplanting machine changes the artificial squatting transplanting method to sitting mechanical transplanting, which greatly reduces the labor load and protects the health of the staff.

Electric Leafy Vegetable Bulk Harvester

This research develops an electric leafy vegetable bulk harvester, which uses machinery to harvest leafy vegetables in the greenhouse. The leafy vegetables are cut by the electric reciprocating shear of the harvester, and the leafy vegetables are transported to the collection trough by the conveying and clamping mechanism. The operator only needs to walk along with the machine to move forward and perform operations to quickly harvest a large number of leafy vegetables. It saves a lot of labor and also reduces the labor of leafy vegetable harvesters. The conveying mechanism design of the electric leafy vegetable harvester was awarded the Taiwan Patent No. I646887.

The Intelligent Vegetable Seedling Production and Sales Management System

The system specially developed for vegetable nurseries. The functions include maintenance of basic data such as customers, field, seeds, and seedling products, as well as order scheduling, sowing, grafting, transplanting, and planting bed seedling inventory management, shipment collection, etc. and statistical analysis reports.

Integrated Application of Line@ Official Account and 「The Intelligent Vegetable Seedling Production and Sales Management System」on Vegetable Seedling Nurseries

We developed an online order RWD action forms of the intelligent vegetable seedling production and sales management system and integrate with the Line@ official account. The function could push product information to customers of nurseries and provide online order of digital services.

Vegetable seedling auto-scheduling and realtime mobile reporting system

The process of vegetable seedling production and sales includes recieving order, sowing seedlings, cultivation management, replanting and inventory. The current process from receiving order, planting to shipment is often handled by manual scheduling and verbal notification. It's easy to make omissions. Use this APP system to automatically schedule each task before seedlings shipment when recieving order, sowing, and assign the person in charge of each task, the system will schedule each task's time schedule into the calendar of each person in charge, and push it in the APP notification form to remind the responsible executives to ensure that the tasks are executed within the effective time, improve the accuracy and quality of the nursery management; and report the task progress in real time through the mobile phone, which can be used as the basis for subsequent automatic management of yield and quality forecasts.

The function of seedling production forecasting is integrated into the Intelligent Vegetable Seedling Production and Sales Management System

Standard operating procedures have been established to collect information that can be analyzed, which can be used to expand the seedling forecasting function of various vegetable crop items. At this stage, 14 crops have been completed, including cabbage , tomato and other crops. At the same time, the integration of functions is completed. When using the Intelligent Vegetable Seedling Production and Sales Management System for vegetable seedlings, the system can directly bring out the required seedling days for the item when placing an order, and give a warning before shipment. Seedling operators improve management efficiency.

Early warning and monitoring system of diseases and pests in nursery greenhouse

Under intense and high humidity nursery environments, diseases and pests outbreaks easily occur after emerging. This research aims to develop a monitoring and early warning system of major pests and diseases of tomatoes in nursery greenhouses. This is realized by performing automatic detection and recognition of pests and analyzing the relationship between the environmental condition and disease occurrence. Based on the real-time count information of pests and prediction of disease occurrences, warning messages are sent to the mobile APP to notify the nursery greenhouse managers for preventing outbreaks on time and improve the efficiency of pesticide application.
Application of tomato grafting seedling growth prediction module

 

Tomato cultivation in Taiwan mostly uses grafted seedlings grafted with eggplant stock, but the growth rate of tomato and eggplant stock is different, which leads to the difference in stem diameter and affects the success rate of grafting. Through the investigation of environmental and physiological parameters and data analysis, a growth prediction module is developed, and a growth prediction module is developed. Validation is carried out to apply to the intelligent scheduling of grafting and seedling cultivation.
Remote control system Seedling is a labor-intensive industry, using the remote control system, managers can use a smartphone or computer to connect to a facility's environmental control system throught network to control the startup or shutdown of equipment, to achieve the goal of remote management, increase the flexibility of management, in addition, the execution conditions of the environmental control equipment can be set through the web-based humun-machine interface to replace the manual operation and reduce the dependence on the manpower.
